The Effectiveness of “Al Arabiyya Linnashieen” in Teaching Arabic in Sri Lankan Arabic Madrasas at the Ordinary Level:(A Descriptive Analytical Study)

Abstract: This study examines the effectiveness of the book “Al Arabiyya Linnashieen” in teaching Arabic in Sri Lankan Arabic Madrasas, particularly at the ordinary level. The book is widely utilized in these educational institutions and is promoted as a comprehensive resource drawing upon extensive research and global experiences in teaching Arabic to non-native learners.

Previous research on the teaching of Arabic in Arabic Madrasas has highlighted deficiencies in students’ linguistic performance. However, no direct investigation has been conducted specifically on the impact of “Al Arabiyya Linnashieen.” Given its prominent role in Arabic instruction, it is essential to explore its efficacy through a descriptive analytical methodology.

The findings of this study reveal that the teaching process in Sri Lankan Arabic Madrasas did not effectively utilize the teacher’s book (Kithb al Muallim) or the exercises provided in “Al Arabiyya Linnashieen.” Consequently, there is a need for improvement in integrating these resources into the instructional practices.

Based on the results, this study puts forth several recommendations to address the identified deficiencies and enhance the teaching of Arabic at the ordinary level in Sri Lankan Arabic Madrasas. These recommendations aim to optimize the utilization of the teacher’s book and the exercises in “Al Arabiyya Linnashieen,” ultimately improving the overall effectiveness of Arabic language instruction in these educational settings.
