Abstract
There are several verbs in Arabic language that are used in our daily life. Among such verbs is danā yadnū dunūwwan. This verb originally means to be near to someone. But due to application of some prepositions to it its connotation changes meaning to be inclined to, to be close to, to be closer to, to join with and to be close to someone physically which is the last degree of being close to anybody. It also means to be close to someone spiritually.
Thus the verb (danā) though means to be close to someone, its has some other meanings and connptations due to applications of some prepositions to it, which are five in number i.e. ilá, bā, ‘alá, lām and min. The following lines will discuss all these meanings in the light of Arabic poetry and the Qur’ān in sha Allah.

المدخل إلى الموضوع: من الأفعال العربية التي نستخدمها كلّ يوم (دَنَا) وهو تارة يعني الميل وأخرى يدلّ على القرب كما يشير إلى الاقتراب ويحوي معنى المساس فلهذا الفعل العادي مدلولات عديدة أوردها كلّ من القرآن الكريم وكلام العرب الجاهلي والإسلامي. وهذا من ميزات اللغة العربية أنّ فعلًا منها يدلّ على معانٍ عديدة لمجرد دخول بعض الأحرف عليه.
ولشيوع فعل (دَنَا) هذا فيما بين دارسي اللغة العربية ودلالته على تلك المعاني وددنا أنْ نتناوله بالبحث فنتتبع وروده في كلام العرب والقرآن الكريم ومن ثم دلالته على معانٍ مختلفة.
